Medical Transcription Courses - Quality Is Vitally Important!

The medical transcription courses that are available vary between schools and on the net. Courses are available both on-line and off-line and some include a mixture of the two.

Although formal accreditation is not required, medical transcription certification is a good place to start your career or part time work.

AHDI Crtificate Programs

The AHDI (American Health Information Management Association) awards two voluntary designations.

The Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) and the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT).

The AHDI has an Approval Committee of Certificate Programs (AACP).

When you successfully pass the AHDI level 1 registered medical transcription exam, you will be awarded the RMT credential. This level is suited to recent graduates of a medical transcription education program, or those with less than two years experience in acute care.

The CMT requires a minimum of two years of acute care experience working in multiple specialty surgery areas using different format, report and dictation types. There is a pass score that must be achieved by those sitting the CMT exam.

For both RMT's and CMT's there is a requirement for continuing education every three years to be recertified. This is to keep up with the constantly evolving world of medicine. Those who achieve certification are recognized as being competent.

Registered Apprenticeship Program

When you graduate from an ACCP approved program with the RMT credential, you are eligible to participate in the registered apprenticeship program.

This medical transcription course offers structured on the job learning and related technical instruction for medical transcriptionists who are qualified and entering the profession.

When checking out a MT course, firstly look at the school that is offering it. Look for testimonials, do they offer job placement assistance and ask for the percentage of people actually placed.

The cost is certainly a consideration, also remember to keep in mind the reputation of the school. It is crucial for your success to enrol in medical transcription courses.
